Beyond research

Interests

Life beyond the lab — sport, books, music, and helping students find their path.

01

Watching Tennis and Cricket

Follows both sports live whenever he can. On the tennis court, a devoted admirer of Roger Federer and the effortless elegance of his game; in cricket, of Michael Bevan — the ice-cool finisher who made the most daunting run chases look routine. There is an analyst's pleasure in both: reading the patterns, anticipating the next move, and watching a contest turn on a single decision.

02

Reading Books

Reads mostly non-fiction and popular science — the kind of clear, curious, wide-ranging writing of Bill Bryson and Carl Sagan, and authors in a similar vein who make big ideas approachable. It is the off-screen counterpart to a career spent thinking about how we see and understand the world, and a steady source of perspective that often finds its way back into teaching and the way a problem gets framed in the lab.

03

Old Tamil and Hindi Songs

A devoted listener of golden-era Tamil and Hindi film music. Favourite composers include Ilaiyaraaja, Shankar–Jaikishan, S. D. and R. D. Burman, Laxmikant–Pyarelal, Jatin–Lalit, M. S. Viswanathan, K. V. Mahadevan, and Madan Mohan — their melodies brought to life by voices such as S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, K. J. Yesudas, Mohammed Rafi, P. Susheela, Lata Mangeshkar, K. S. Chithra, and Vani Jairam. The soundtrack of choice for long drives and quiet evenings, and an easy thread of nostalgia that carries across generations.

04

Career Counselling

Mentors students on internships, higher studies, and placements through his roles with Career Development Services at IIT Gandhinagar. He enjoys helping students think clearly about choosing degrees, weighing research directions, and navigating the choices that shape an early career — and welcomes being approached for guidance.
